INTRODUCTION
TO THE NELSON McCOY POTTERY LINES &
THE COLORS INITIALLY PRODUCED
|
 |
The “Picture Gallery” presents an example
of the type of pieces that are in the various pottery
lines produced by the Nelson McCoy Pottery in chronological
order. While each piece in the different lines is not
shown, the examples given serve as an aid in identifying
the name of the line that a particular piece of pottery
is associated. The Nelson McCoy Pottery assigned most
of the line names, however, over the years, collectors
have assigned a few of the names, and they are included
here.
Along
with the pictures are the line names and
the introductory date of the line. The production
of some lines continued for many years, while other
lines lasted only for a short time, some less than a year. Therefore, the date
shown is the initial issue date and it may not be the precise date of issue
of all similar pieces.
The
gallery consists of about 110 different lines, and
these lines contain many different pieces. In addition
to these pieces, the pottery produced a very large
number of other individual pieces. These individual
pieces were not associated with a particular line,
and so are not included here.
Also
presented is a list of the initially produced glaze
colors for each line. The glaze colors of some lines
did not change throughout the lifetime of the line.
However, the glaze colors of some pieces in other
lines did change in subsequent years. Some of the
originally issued colors became no longer available,
and new colors usually replaced them.
The
design on, or shape of, a particular piece by itself
does not always indicate the line to which the piece
belongs. At times, the pottery decided to re-issue
pieces with a particular design or shape as individual
pieces, or they were included in a different line.
These pieces typically have a different glaze color
from the original, and in such cases where a piece
is included in a line different from the original line,
the glaze color determines the line to which the piece
belongs.
The
Society hopes that you find that the pictures and
information presented here is informative, and that
they serve as an aid in identifying those unfamiliar
pieces.
A
special thank you goes to Craig Nissen for his kind
assistance in providing pictures of lines included
in this gallery.
