It appears that "round two" of reproductions (pieces
made to look like and are marked as the original, authentic
McCoy pieces) has begun. In spring of 2002, there was
a surge of reproductions and fakes that entered the market.
Below is a picture of those items that were produced in
2002 in the likeness of authentic McCoy pieces. All of
the pieces shown have a marking that is very similar to
those marks that were used by the Nelson McCoy Pottery
Co.

It's
now the spring of 2003 and within the last month or two,
several NEW reproductions have surfaced. Shown below are
the reproductions that have been produced so far in 2003
that we know exist.

These
pieces all appear to be created by the same person or
company. The glazes we are finding on the 2003 crop of
reproductions are the same as those that were used in
2002. However, cobalt is seen more often now than in the
pieces from last year, which probably reflects the popularity
of that color.
It
has also been noted that the 2003 reproductions are being
sold by many of the same people who previously unleashed
the reproductions and fakes in 2002.
In
addition to wall-pockets, planters, and vases, there are
also a number of Cookie Jar reproductions and fakes out
there as well. However, I don't collect cookie jars, so
I will leave the information on those pieces to others.
Please
keep in mind that the pieces shown here are only the pieces
that we KNOW were reproduced recently. Others may be out
there. In addition, there are many fakes that are also
being produced. These pieces resemble authentic pieces
that were originally produced by various pottery companies,
but now the fakes have a McCoy mark as if they were actually
produced by the Nelson McCoy Pottery Co.
